Elementary Battle of the Books 2019-2020
Your student has indicated that he/she is interested in participating in our Elementary Battle of the Books (EBOB) program this year. Battle of the Books is a book program that is run by the North Carolina School Librarians Association. The purpose of the program is to encourage students to read high quality children’s literature. Students that are selected to be on the EBOB team will go to participate in a competition with the other elementary schools in Wilkes County.
These are the requirements for this year’s team:
- Read 3 different books from the EBOB list
- pass the Reading Counts tests
- Test given by EBOB coaches
- Deadline Tuesday, December 17th
- Team announced Friday, December 20th
Students will meet on Tuesdays after school until 4:15pm, starting on Tuesday, November 5. This is our time to discuss the books and practice questions. All students participating are great readers and we expect them to keep up with this reading. If they are not prepared, it’s hard to have a quality discussion.
The students who complete the requirements above and have the top scores on book quizzes will be on the EBOB team.
As coaches, we reserve the right to dismiss a student at any time from the team because of bad behavior or lack of participation.
Once the team is selected the students are required to continue reading from the EBOB book list.
If you have any questions please let us know. The best way to reach us is by email. If you give your student permission to participate, please sign below and send this letter back to school.
